Cycling The Danube
Europe’s second longest river, superseded only by the Volga, the Danube passes through an impressive 10 countries including Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine and Romania. The vast river has a total drainage of 315,000 square miles, with its source in the Black Forest of Germany and its mouth in the Black Sea.
Our superbly designed route follows the river for over 800 miles on dedicated cycle paths and picturesque country roads, soaking up the incredible scenery offered by this immense river whose banks are lined with numerous castles and fortresses. The tour begins in Donaueschingen in Germany at the source of River Danube, before heading east through the Black Forest and Bavaria, to Passau before travelling into Austria, passing through the heart of Vienna, from there into Slovakia and the capital of Bratislava before continuing onto Hungary where the tour concludes in Budapest.
