UK Coast To Coast (Morecambe to Bridlington)

Another wonderful UK Coast to Coast! This is Bike Adventures’ relaxed version of the idyllic Sustrans ‘Way of the Roses’ route. A 170 mile (270km), fully supported 5-day trip across the UK, starting in Morecambe and finishing in Bridlington, Yorkshire. (Please note we can organise shorter versions of this trip for private groups; please contact us for details).

This cycling holiday has some great riding, the route taking you through an amazing variety of landscapes as it follows the River Lune and River Wenning into the Pennines, before entering the stunning scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There is a significant climb across the edge of Rye Loaf Hill and hence on to the highest point of the route (Greenhow) before dropping down to Pateley Bridge. Things ease off after Pateley Bridge as we continue through perfect cycling country to the lovely City of York, and finally into Bridlington.

The Way of the Roses trip was excellent – good route, impeccable organisation, unbelievable weather and great company.

Holiday Details:

The Area: As Britain is an island you are never more than a few days ride from the sea, and as a result there has always been a great deal of interest in journeys that cross the country from one coast to another. Our aim with this ride was to highlight the wonderful Sustrans route that takes you through a wide variety of landscapes; this is meant to be a relaxing ride, with Bike Adventures taking the strain of carrying your bags, booking accommodation, and providing discrete on-the-road support, leaving you with plenty of time to sip coffee, take photos and generally dawdle as you wish. The result is our brand new ‘Way of the Roses’ ride, which complements our other UK ‘Coast to Coast routes.

The Tour: This is a fully supported holiday with a tour leader and a vehicle to carry all the luggage and provide additional assistance if necessary. The route is designed to follow minor roads and cycle paths as much as possible, but there are a few sections of busier roads where there is no suitable alternative. The average daily mileage is approximately 34 miles, and there are no rest days.

Accommodation & Food: This is a B&B holiday.  In the evening, meals are available at nearby restaurants.

Start: The holiday starts on the sea front at Morecambe at approximately 09:30 on Day 1. (Note: If you require accommodation on Day 0 (the night before the start of the trip) this is not included in the price of the holiday).

Finish: The cycling ends on Day 5 at Bridlington, in Yorkshire. Accommodation is not included on this night, although transport will be provided to the nearest railway station at Bridlington, from where there are train services to all parts of the UK.

Cycle Transport: If required we offer a cycle transport service to transport your bike to Morecambe and/or home from Bridlington (additional fee payable).

Documents: Insurance is optional UK residents. Participants from outside the UK must have suitable travel insurance for any or all parts.

Bikes: All types of cycles are suitable for the trip. The most important thing is that your bike functions properly and that you are comfortable riding it. However you should make sure that it has suitable gears as there are some very steep hills on parts of the route. Most people will require a cycle with a triple chainset. If you are riding a mountain bike then you should fit it with narrow ‘slick’ tyres. You should also make sure that you are able to carry some spare food and clothing with you on the bike. The route does cross some wild exposed areas with little in the way of shelter and no services, and you can get very cold and wet if the weather is bad.

Tour price includes:

Hotel accommodation
Breakfast

Route information
Transport to Bridlington railway station at the end of holiday

Tour price does not include:

Lunch or evening meals
Snacks or drinks required during the day
