Six glorious days of riding along the French Mediterranean coast, from the wild natural splendour of the western lagoons and the Camargue to the high-society resorts of the Riviera. Of course, it is also a chance to bag a ‘side-to-side’ of France.

This third edition of the one week trip has been timetabled for the early-season and offers the perfect opportunity to top up strength and colour in the legs. Average daily mileages are reasonably high (around 70) but the going is easy with relatively few hills. Transport connections are good at both ends.

Day 0 – Arrive in Perpignan

We will meet you from Perpignan airport for the 30 mile transfer to your hotel in Cerber, close to the Spanish border. Depending on the group size and timing of flights we may use our own vehicle or a chartered coach.

Day 1 – Cerbere to Narbonne – 70 miles

From Cerbere we initially head inland on very quiet roads before meeting the coast at Port Vendres. We remain on the coast for many miles, bypassing Perpignan, before returning inland to skirt the large salt water lagoons around Port Leucate and Port La Nouvelle. Apart from one good-sized hill our day is flat! We stay in central Narbonne, close to the Canal Du Midi.

Day 2 – Narbonne to Montpelier – 72 miles

The western Mediterranean coast is surprisingly undeveloped with few coastal communities and no continuous coast road. We spend much of the day a little inland, skirting Beziers on quiet country roadsbefore returning to the coast to squeeze past the large Etang Du Thau lagoon. We stay in La Grand Motte, a popular coastal resort and port near Montpellier.

Day 3 – Montpelier to Martigues – 73 miles

Our morning is spent skirting the Camargue nature reserve, passing through the sizeable town of Arles, before turning southeast. We spend the night in Martigues, between the sea and the Etang de Berre lagoon.

Day 4 – Martigues to Toulon – 65 miles

Today we are a little distance from the coast, briefly meeting it as we pass through the city of Marseilles. We end our day in the naval city of Toulon, a great place to get a tattoo as a memento of the trip! Inevitably there are some urban stretches through the two cities.

Day 5 – Toulon to San Raphael – 65 miles

A mixed day of flat coastal riding and two forays inland to headlands where there are some modest climbs. We pass between Hyeres and the Gien Peninsula, and into the Riviera, passing St Tropez and St Maxime before finishing in St Raphael.

Day 6 – San Raphael to Menton- 65 miles

A day of glitz and glamour as we hug the coast past Cannes, Nice and Monte Carlo. We finish close to the Italian border in Menton.

Day 7 – Depart Nice

After a night in Menton we offer transport for the 25 mile journey to Nice Airport
