Au Bon Accueil
Au Bon Accueil offers bed and breakfast accommodation in a 230 year old house in the Bay of Mont St Michel on the Brittany/Normandy border. This is a perfect base location for family cycling holidays – the roads are flat and quiet, our village location is rural but not isolated and many local, and famous attractions are within easy reach. There is a private car park and safe bicycle storage.
There are 5 ensuite rooms – 2 double bed rooms, a triple room, a room for 4 and a family suite sleeping 6 in two bedrooms. Continental breakfast is included and WiFi available throughout the property. A fridge and microwave are available for guests to use as is the garden seating area.
Au Bon Accueil is situated 15km from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mont St Michel and only 8km from the nearest beach. The ferry port at St Malo is 30km away, and it’s 1.5 hours from Caen, 2 hours from Cherbourg and 4.5 hours from Calais.
There are many designated local cycle routes, and your hosts can provide maps and guides. The La Voie Verte cycle route runs around the whole of the bay of Mont St Michel…you can stop off at the coastal villages, where there are many restaurants and you can sample the local oysters and mussels that grow in the bay.
In 2013 the Tour de France visited this area…you can follow their ‘tyre tracks’ to St Malo and Cancale and to Mont St Michel, Avranches and Fougeres. Other local attractions include the medieval town of Dol de Bretagne – the former capital of Brittany with its 11th century cathedral and huge Saturday morning market. Cherrueix for the nearest beach – full of shells – is only 8km distant. Mont Dol – site of myth and legend with a superb view point over the Bay. Cancale, oyster capital of France with over 50 seafood restaurants. Or travel a little further afield for Dinan, Dinard, St Suliac (Un des Plus Beaux Villages de France) on the Rance river, Granville for Christian Dior’s house and garden, the military cemeteries at Mont de Huines and St James, Combourg for its beautiful Renaissance chateau by a lake, Fougeres (for Europe’s largest medieval fortress), or Rennes – the modern capital of Brittany. Bayeux and the landing beaches are 1.5 hours away by car.
If you want more adventure you can try karting, sand yachting, horse riding, kayaking or go for a walk in the tree tops.
There is a wide choice of restaurants locally – 3 within walking distance and, within 25 minutes by car, you have the choice of hundreds – to suit all tastes and budgets. There are many supermarkets close by – the nearest mini market is 1.5km.
