Family Cycling in France

France is synonymous with cycling – there are vast plentiful opportunities for families with young children to enjoy cycling in a wide variety of wonderful environments.

The most accessible opportunities for relaxed family cycle tourism are provided by the country’s vast network of secondary roads, country lanes, and canal towpaths. The vast majority of France’s 550,000 miles of roads (excluding motorways) is composed of minor byways, where vehicle traffic is generally very light. Cycling conditions on these roads are generally very safe, meaning that family cycling holidays can be planned throughout the country.

Even safer than France’s minor road network is its evolving network of long-distance cycleways that cover thousand’s of miles of dedicated tracks where the most serious hazards are likely to be wandering hikers and wildlife.
