RAID
PYRENEEN
This is a magnificent cycling holiday that takes you the length of the Pyrenees following the route of the Raid Pyreneen. Established in 1951 the Raid is one of the most popular challenge rides in France – to successfully complete the ride you must cover the distance of just over 800km (which also involves some 16,000m of climbing) in 10 days.

This holiday has been organised to enable you to do just that. It is a magnificent cycle ride through some of the finest scenery in France.

***The holiday also includes the chance to see both the Pyrenean mountain stages of the 2008 Tour de France, on the Col de Peyresorde and on the Col de Tourmalet.***

The trip starts at Perpignan from where we transfer you to the start of the ride at Cerbere. The following day we start cycling south along the coast to Argeles-sur-Mer then turn inland, crossing several small passes on some lovely wild and remote roads.

We then enter the high mountains, the route taking you over the cols that have been made famous by the Tour de France – the Aspin, Tourmalet, Aubisque, Portet d’Aspet, Peyresourde, d’Agnes, and the Marie Blanque. The last couple of days are more gentle as you gradually descend towards the Atlantic Ocean, finishing the ride at the popular resort town of Hendaye close to the Spanish border. The following day you will be transported to Biarritz airport for the flight home.

There are no rest days on this holiday to ensure that you finish the ride within the 10 day time limit and are able to claim an official medal. Note that the dates of the trip have been deliberately chosen to coincide with the Tour de France. You may wish to add an extra couple of days at the beginning or end of the trip.

"Found the tour challenging but enjoyable
and very satisfying to have completed it.
