HAUTE PROVENCE
(and Mont Ventoux)
To end our cycling holidays on mainland France we have this challenging ride through the southern part of the French Alps, the region known as Haute Provence. The trip takes you over the Col de la Bonette (the highest road in France), as well as numerous smaller but very attractive passes, and also includes the spectacular Grand Canyon of the Verdon River and the Cian Gorges. There is also an optional ride up Mont Ventoux.

On arrival in Nice we will meet you and transport you to the first nights accommodation at the attractive old town of Vence from where the cycling starts the following day.

The route takes you through the dry, rocky, but very beautiful hills of Provence, along the rim of the Grand Canyon of the Verdon River, through fields of lavender to the Durance Valley. From here you continue through the undulating hills to the small town of Sault, at the foot of mighty Mont Ventoux.

The following day you have a choice of routes, one ride takes you through some lovely countryside and over several attractive but minor cols, a more challenging longer ride takes you over Mont Ventoux. Both rides ending at the pleasant little town of Sisteron in the Durance Valley.

From here the route takes you along some very quiet roads that take you over several small but challenging cols as we head north around Lake Serre-Poncon to the small town of Barcelonnette. From here the route turns south over the Col de la Bonette (2802m), along the Tinee Valley and through the Gorges du Cians as we make our way over the hills of the Maritime Alps, back to Vence. The following day we transfer you to Nice in time to catch a flight back to the UK.

This is a hotel based trip using small family run establishments. There are no rest days on this holiday.
