This is a delightful cycling holiday through Normandy, one of the loveliest regions of France. It is an ideal trip for cyclists who are looking for an early season trip with time for sightseeing. The trip starts with an overnight ferry from Portsmouth to the picturesque coastal town of St Malo, from where we begin riding. The route takes you along the coast to the fabulous fortress abbey at Mont St Michel, which you have a chance to visit. From here you turn inland through the picturesque Norman countryside with plenty of pretty villages of traditional half timbered houses. The route takes you through the old town of Domfront, the spa town of Bagnoles de l’Orne, the ornate chateaux at Carrouges and Chateau d’Ô, and Haras du Pin, the home of the French National stud. From here we turn north through the beautiful Pays d’Auge, the heart of the Normandy cheese and cider producing area, following scenic roads along the Touques Valley. We pass the chateau at St Germain-de-Livet, and then continue through some lovely villages as we head to Caen in time to catch the afternoon ferry back to Portsmouth. You stay at some wonderful family run hotels, that offer excellent accommodation and cuisine which uses the region's specialities including Camembert and Livrados cheeses and Calvados.
