This is a challenging cycling holiday that follows the ‘Route des Grandes Alpes’ taking you over most of the highest passes in the French Alps.The cycling is both challenging and exhilarating, with some breathtaking climbs and descents. Mountain cycling does not get any better than this. The holiday starts with a flight to Geneva from where you are transported to Thonon-les-Bains for the first night on the shore of Lac Leman. The cycling starts the next day with a lovely introduction to the Alps, taking you over a couple of minor, but very attractive, cols. The following day you tackle three beautiful passes including the lovely Cormet de Roseland (1968m), the first of the cols that has been made popular by riders in the Tour de France. The next couple of days the route takes you over the giants of the Alps - Col de Vars (2111m), Col d’Isoire (2360m), Col du Lautaret (2057m), Col du Galibier (2642m), Col de la Cayolle (2326m) and the mighty Col de l’Iseran (2770m), the highest genuine pass in the Alps. The final day includes several lower but very attractive cols as you gradually descend towards the Mediterranean Sea. The holiday ends at the resort town of Menton, and the following day we transfer you to Nice in time to catch a flight back to the UK. There are no rest days on this holiday.
