| A WEEK IN THE DORDOGNE | |
|
This trip takes you through one of the most attractive regions in France. The area offers some superb cycling, and the route takes you through some very pretty villages, several of which are officially listed as among the most beautiful villages in France. The area also has some fascinating caves, containing prime examples of prehistoric art. The holiday starts a few miles east of Bergerac at the small town of Lalinde, on the River Dordogne. However the route begins by heading south, through pleasant rolling countryside and several attractive little villages, to the Lot Valley. Here you turn east, passing through the popular town of Cahours, and continue following the Lot River to Figeac. The route then heads north through the Quercy Regional Park to rejoin the Dordogne River, and you spend two nights at a small village by the side of the river. There is an optional day ride from here which takes you to the attractive little town of Sarlat-la-Caneda, and then into the Vezere Valley, with a chance to visit one of the many prehistoric cave sites that dot the valley. The following day you continue along the Dordogne Valley back to Lalinde, from where you return to Bergerac for the journey home. Accommodation on this trip is in small family hotels, a great chance to sample the fabulous cuisine the region is also famous for. Kevin says: "This is one of my favourite areas of France. Some great cycling and some incredibly pretty little villages" |
