This is a delightful cycling holiday, which takes you along the coast and through the mountains of this fascinating island, and has some fabulous riding on wonderful roads, offering some of the best cycling to be found anywhere in Europe. The holiday starts at Nice, from where we catch the late afternoon ferry to the attractive resort town of Calvi. The following day we start cycling with a ride along the stunning western coast of the island, the road hugging the cliff face much of the way, with some fabulous views over the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. We then turn inland, crossing over the Col de Verghio, the highest on the island, to the lovely little town of Corte, the ancient capital of Corsica. Nearby is the popular Restonica Gorge. From here the route takes you south along the spectacular crest of the mountains that form the backbone of the island, passing through small villages on some wonderful wild and remote roads. The final two days takes us out of the mountains and back to the coast to follow the road overlooking the Gulf of Ajaccio past small rocky coves and old Genoese watchtowers, to the old port town of Ajaccio. We spend the night in Ajaccio and the following morning take the ferry back to Nice in time to catch an evening flight home. This holiday uses small family run hotels. Corsica has some excellent restaurants - the regional cuisine uses quality local ingredients and menus have a distinct Italian influence. "Excellent holiday - even the day with the rain!"
