Itinerary: Day 1 – 6 miles
From Dover take the ferry across the English Channel to Calais and then cycle the short distance to Guines. Day 2 – 36 miles
Head south through rolling countryside to Desvres, and then along the Course Valley to the pretty walled town of Montreil. Day 3 – 32 miles
Continue south to the Abbey at Argoules and through the Foret de Crecy. Day 4 – 36 miles
Cross the Somme River and continue south through pretty rolling farming countryside. Day 5 – 36 miles
The route takes you into Normandy, where there is some lovely countryside and pretty villages of timbered houses. Day 6 – 36 miles
Continue through the magnificent Foret de Lyons to cross the River Seine at Les Andelys beneath the ruined castle built by Richard the Lionheart. Day 7 – 34 miles
Across rolling hills of the Eure Valley and through the attractive little town of Anet. Day 8 – 30 miles
Continue south alongside the Eure River and then across the open plains of central France. Day 9 – 32 miles
Still on the flat open plains you pass around Chatres and continue south through the busy town of Chateaudun, where there is a huge chateau. Day 10 – 38 miles
A longer day that takes you past several small chateaux on your way to the Loire Valley. You stop for the night near the magnificent chateau at Chambord. Day 11 – 38 miles
Leaving the Loire Valley you continue through the flat wooded lakeland region known as the Sologne to the Cher River. Day 12 – 36 miles
Head through gently rolling farming countryside around Bourges. Day 13 – 34 miles
Continue south along the Cher Valley, passing through the small town of Bruere Allichamps, the centre of France, ending the day in the beautiful Troncais Forest. Day 14 – 32 miles

Day 15 – 40 miles
A tough day that takes you along the Chouvigny and Sioule Gorges, ending at the small hill top town of St Gervais d'Auvergne. Day 16 – 34 miles
An excellent but hilly day that ends near the fabulous cone of the Puy de Dome. Day 17 – 32 miles
A superb ride that takes you through Parc Regional des Volcans d'Auvergne, along some wonderfully scenic but hilly and winding roads, to the attractive little town of Besse. Day 18 – 32 miles
Another excellent days ride that takes you around the Monts Dore and along the picturesque Santoire Valley. Day 19 – 28 miles
A tough day that takes you through some superb scenery as you cross the Cantal Mountains. Day 20 – 36 miles
You cross the Truyere Gorge on some wonderfully wild, bleak roads, then pass through the small spa town of Chaudes-Aigues. Day 21 – 36 miles
A wonderful days ride that takes you across the wild plains of the Aubrac Mountains and over the Col de Bonnecombe (1350 metres). Day 22 – 26 miles
An easier day that takes you along the famous Tarn Gorge to the attractive town of Florac. Day 23 – 34 miles
A fabulous ride that takes you into the Cevennes National Park and along the magnificent Corniche des Cevennes, where there are superb views over the surrounding mountains. Day 24 – 32 miles
A pleasant ride that takes you through the rocky hills of Provence, passing through numerous attractive little towns and villages. Day 25 – 42 miles
A long, but generally fairly easy day that takes you through gently undulating countryside before following the canals and rivers of the Carmargue to the small busy resort town of Stes Maries-de-la-Mer on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Day 26 – 26 miles
Easy ride that takes you away from the coast to the small town of St Gilles. Day 27 – 10 miles
Ride to Nimes and return to the UK. |
