| This is a trip through one of the most attractive regions in France. The area offers some superb cycling, and the route takes you through some very pretty villages, several of which are officially listed as among the most beautiful villages in France, and castles and chateaux too numerous to mention. The area also has some fascinating caves, containing prime examples of prehistoric art. Starting and finishing at Bergerac, the route first heads south to the small town of Cahors, and then follows the Lot River into the Quercy Regional Park, before joining the Dordogne River which you then follow back to Bergerac. | |||||||||||||||||||
| Roads & Terrain:
The route mainly follows minor paved roads, although there are a few sections on main roads, and
you do pass through a couple of moderately large towns. This is a popular tourist area and some
of the towns and villages along the way can be very busy, particularly in summer, although away
from the popular tourist villages the roads are generally quiet. Although the route mainly follows
river valleys the roads are moderately undulating, with a few steep climbs along the way. There
are also some steep climbs out of the valleys onto the surrounding limestone plateau, and to some
of the villages, which are located above the valley floor.
